Hey guys, I'm making some guinea pig treats, and I ran out of oats, is it safe to feed guinea pigs amaranth? I'm making "cookies", not really sre if that would affect anything, but I'll put it out there to be safe.

Thanks

Does anybody know?

Neither amaranth nor oats.

Really? I didn't know. On a lot of forum sites I've been to they said that oats were okay in moderation. Thank god I haven't fed the pigs these cookies. Thanks c:

On a side note, what problems do oats/amarath cause pigs? Just curious.

They swell in the gut, so too many can be dangerous. Eating one or two probably won't hurt much, if at all. But they love herbs -- why not feed them dill, cilantro, basil, thyme, etc. instead?

Hahah, don't worry, when you posted that, I tossed the cookies, and make the a salad. I've got indoor herbs growing for them, as well. The reason i asked is because my older sister, who also has piggies sent me the idea. I just wanted to know if they were a serious threat, but i called her and she tossed them as well. Again, thanks c:
