Cage space and toys

We are new cavy owners and we are still trying to get our cage situation figured out. We have a relatively small C&C cage area (was 2x5 for 3 pigs, now it is 2x3 + 2x2). We know that it is good to have hutches and toys for the pigs, but what if it takes up the open space that they walk around in? Which is more important? If we put 2 or 3 things in our cavies cage, it is pretty much full. Thanks for your advice!

Ok so what I am understanding is A) you have a 2x3 cage with two piggs in it, and a 2x2 cage with 1 pig in it. or B) you have 3 piggs in a 2x3 with upper level of 2x2. ? Which is it. Ok space matters the most! You need a larger cage for options A) or B) . What I would reccomend if you don't want a 2x5 cc cage because it is large etc. Make a 2x4 cc cage with 1x4 upper level for three cavies. Unless you have 2 same sex cavies and 1 opposite sex cavy. Then you need two 2x3 cages. (some people even house one pigg in a 2x4 cc cage.) And no matter how many upper stories you put in a cage they don't count for square footage, they actually take away from square footage.
About the toys, your cage (s) need to have hidey houses no matter what. If there isn't room for toys in the cage then you can put the toys out for them during floor time (which your piggs should be getting every day in a large space).

ok, i have aproblem with toys. my cage isnt very big so fitting everything in my cage is making it look small. right now, i have two cozies, a pvc pipe, a futon, and 1 hidey house(though there is room under the futon for hiding)

i know im supposed to have two of everything, but since i dont, is this enough?

Loves2travel I think this should be ok. Since your piggs are babies. They will be most likely to snuggle and sleep together anyways for security. Do you have two different places for them to sleep (1 place for each pigg)? Like 2 different types of hidey houses?


Oh did you ever build that foldable add on out of coroplast?

well, there are two cozies.....they Could sleep in the tunnel.....or on the futon and under the futon......(the futon is raised) or in the paper sack......

yea, i think they will snuggle. they ares sisters and the lady who is taking care of them right now says they are both very sweet and cuddly.

no, that was when their cage was going to be smaller, and it would be in my room. now its in the family room so that wont work. also, ill be gving them floor time for three to four hours every day, which should compensate.

That should work out fine! They have plenty of different places to sleep in!

ok, great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also....there are lots of fleece blankets floating around for them to crawl, hide, and burrow in.

no, that was when their cage was going to be smaller, and it would be in my room. now its in the family room so that wont work. also, ill be gving them floor time for three to four hours every day, which should compensate.

well, its not very much bigger, just one by one units bigger, so its like a 2 x 3.5 instead of a 2 x 3.

i can kind of see where they are coming from.....they are paying for everything.....

i insisted that i pay so we could get more stuff, but they just said....
"if they are going to be family pets, just like this is a family house, then we(mom and dad) will pay for it, just like WE paid for this house."

hmmmmm, weird most parents just say "Of course you can buy ________" (examples guinea pig food, bedding veggies, clothes, etc lol) Thats sure nice of your parents!

yea, its nice on their part, for sure.................but they still want me to take a break. so ok, i will. ill get back on their case about adding a top level maybe in december.

LOL, yea, we do have quite a few parents on this site. LOL. i love my parents, i think they are the best in the world!!!!!!! (im not kidding)

but still.......100 dollars on pig supplies spent in only two weeks AND we dont even have them yet, well, they wanted me to take it easy for a bit. like i said before, LOL, i dont blame em.....
