Can A 2X4 cage also be made as a 3X3 cage? It looks like there are 12 grids. Is that the same square footage? If I can convince my husband to give up the tv in the computer room then we will be able to make more room for Cali and the rats. ( not in the same cage in case thats the way it sounded )

yes it can be made that way.

YEs that is how I did my cage

You'll find it much bigger than a 2x4, dont know why, cause they are the same still lol

PigletsAngel, you can edit your posts instead of double posting, it's a little blue box next to where it says reply.

Heh, thanks Dagwell, I always forget right after I post it lol.

well that opens up some opportunities I hope. What size table does your cage sit on?

It actually sits on the floor.....

I think it's cuz the cage is square and not rectangle. I thought it wasn't a good idea to put cages on the floor? I have to have an closed cage cuz of the cats. Oh what city are you from again?

A 3X3 has more square footage than a 2X4 even though it uses the same number of grids. 3 x 3 = 9 but 2 x 4 = 8

how do you come up with that calculation? I thought 2X4 was 10.5 sq ft?

Each grid is 14" so you can't come up with sq. feet by multiplying like that.

A 2x5 is 10.5 sq feet, a 2x4 is like...7.5 sq ft?

a 2x3 is 7.5 sq ft, a 2x4 is 10.5 sq ft

Yes, but a 3x3 is still a tad bigger. THe floor is ok for pigs, but the best is to put the cage on a table. You will have better inteaction and when you walk into the room you won't look like a giant to the pigs. For me this isn't possible though.

I built a stand out of cubes. It's two grids high. I am 5'4'' and it comes up to my waist. 3x3 is bigger which is why it takes up more floor space as well.

I know, it would be 8 square feet vs. 9 square feet if the cubes were only one foot square. I was just trying to show how a 3X3 would be bigger than a 2X4, because you multiply length times width to get the square footage. With 14" cubes you would multiply 28" x 56" and then divide by 12 to get square footage for a 2X4. And you could do the same for a 3X3 and it would turn out a little more.

2 x 4 = (2x14") x (4x14")
=28" x 56"
=1568 sq. "
Divide by 144" (12" square):
1568 sq "/144 sq "
=about 10.888... sq. ft.

3 x 3 = (3x14") x (3x14")
=42" x 42"
=1764 sq "
1764 sq "/144 sq "
=about 12.25 sq ft.

I feel like I'm in Algebra class, but thank you for the information.

Let me see if I got this straight. You built the stand two grids high and then built the cage?
