I just made a huge cage for my pigglets and they seem to like to go in two spots ,behide the ramp and in the bed next to it (see posted pics of layout). Today my 1 in a half month old pig named baby tryed to get his head through the cubes and got it stuck it was the worst thing that ever happend. We had the to cut the cage to get him out but that did not work,so he turned on his side and got out(THANK GOD).But now im a little worried he might try it again and i might be in school or somewhere, so i could not help him .Do you guys know of anything to cover the wall with or do think i should not be worried about this happening again?

thanks,scarlett

(Sorry about the long post )

Hi,
You can try using extra coroplast or cardboard to make the sides temporarily higher. That's what I'll be doing as well. Good luck =)

thanks good idea

Check my gallery for a pic of our cage with 12" high walls. You could try taping an extra 6" of coroplast (tape on the outside) and securing the top of the extension to the cage with clips.
Our pigs are 2 months old, so we don't plan on cutting our walls down until they're 6 months old.

Thats a good idea suhsi but the wall is in the middle of the cage and they might eat the tape plus i want to let them see through the wall..

If the baby can see through it, he can stick his head through it.

not true what about some sort of mesh?...

Excellent call! What about this type of cubes?

(broken link removed)

does anyone know a store where ican find thet kind of grids and i well want extra support because i really dont want anything callapsing

sorry for all the errors

it won't colapse, it takes a persons body weight to bend it, they are strong little things.

Im still kinda scared about it ...

Look in the galleries, 90% of 2x1 second levels don't have extra support. So take out the grid and give your pigs an extra cozie.

My 2x1 has no support and definetilly won't fall. Don't worry about it.

The mesh grids you can get at Target, but they are kind of a pain because you can't hang water bottles, etc.

Yep you don't. I just needed 2 sopports for my second level which was a 2x4.

Heh, lindey, you say it like there was a chance of me being wrong. ;)

It should not collapse. I have a 1x2 loft in my bunny cage and it has no support...and my bunny is 7 pounds, so I think I would be able to hold a guinea pig.

I think you guys should use the mesh cages because your guinea pig can not put his head through, so you do not have to make 10 foot sides.
