Covers Cage Lid Issue...

I put a c&c cage together (2x4) and had enough grids for a lid. I've discovered that it's very difficult when needing to feed them and trying to capture them to hold them, always having to pop them out one by one and then popping them in one by one with the connectors. So, my question is, how do I make an opening and closing lid?

I know that a lot of people use closet shelving as a lid. They get it from either lowes or home depot (they may have it at both, I'm not sure). They should even cut it for you.

I have heard some people talking about using key rings to connect the lid part of the top together so they could just flip it open. They mentioned about using like binder clips to fasten it shut and then just remove the binder clip and flip the hinged part up. Good luck with you lid.

Just FYI, I'm in the process of adding Cage Lids to our C&C store. The new products should be up by Monday. We had special rods custom-manufactured for us overseas for this purpose. We also have custom support bars for long cage lids and upper decks.

Until you can get a long rod, you can get a 2x2 from a home supply center. Make it an inch or so longer on each end than the cage is wide. Zip tie your grids to the board, and that will be the part of the lid you raise. Fasten the other side of the grids to other grids or to another 2x2 that's your center support. It really depends on how your cage is configured. If you'll post dimensions, we can give you some help.
