Hi all!

Recently my piggies have been burrowing under the fleece and seem to enjoy it alot. Ive since been letting them do this by having two layers of fleece, one as the flooring and one held up by pegs in a tunnel allowing them easy access.

My question is- is burrowing under there good for them health wise? They do spend alot of time under there, is it good social wise? Just curiouslol

As long as they can't get to any puppy pads that you may or maynot have underneath it is just another hidey for them.

Mine decided that they liked it much better under the fleece. Unfortunately I've ruined their fun by folding it under a frame of plastic tubes now, though I have added other hidey places.

I don't think it was particuarly bad for them, but I didn't get to enjoy their company as I felt like I had a pet blanket that moved. It also made it harder to clean as their poops were dispersed in the layers.

As Baby said, it's just another hidey hole, so just use the same considerations as you would for other hideies- is there adequate ventilation and space? Make sure they get some natural light and that they are used to human company - if they hide whenever you come in the room and don't come out then you need to change the type of hidey they have to something where they can hide and watch you so that they get used to you.

Thankyou spirited and babygrl1234,

The tunnel itself that ive made out of fleece does give them air, maybe I should expand it more to let more in. My only concern is my boar. He is seperated from them in a divided part of the cage and seems quite lonely when they are all under there and he isnt. They will come when I call their names, which usually means food lol so its not a problem for interaction between me and them. Ill see how it all works out!

Thankyou again!

The only reason I could see it being a problem is if the smell of urine is strong under the towels. I know sometimes when I clean all of the bedding out of the cage I really notice the smell when everything gets to be moved around. Yuck! Also if they go potty under there your pigs will probably smell like urine too since they are on top of the towels. Other than that, I don't think it is a "problem", just more work for you :)

Thanks weaver I hadnt thought of that. Ive litter trained them, well they have trained themselves to go potty on the newspaper I lay out for them. Usually I change the fleece every three days. Before I only had newspaper and fleece and it annoyed me to no end with how much I had to clean!

As long as they enjoy it ill keep letting them do it. I think I really have become a cavy slave!
