Hi, I was wondering- I heard that bunnies and guinea pigs shouldn't live together, but can they play together? If they are out running freely on the floor, would it be safe for the guinea pig? Any respose is greatly appreciated.

Supervised floor time is appropriate. But do not house them together.

ok thank you

Its the disease thing Im worried about. If you are supervising them very closely then the interaction can be monitered.

ok. thank you very much.

See www.guineapigcages.com/rabbits.htm. I would not risk it, knowing that they may give each other disease, and that the rabbit may kick and injure/kill the cavy.
I agree, rabbits have very powerful hind legs which can easily injure a pig, or if they land on them wrong, can break their delicate backs. In my opinion, better to err on the side of caution and do not risk it.

ok. that's a good point. I don't want my beloved Dusty to get hurt!

I let my rabbit run around with my piggies out in the garden. The garden is big enough for them to be meters away from eachother. They do not interact much and hardly ever come into contact. On one or two occasions though I have noticed my rabbit grooming my piggie. Just be careful, one kick and your piggie can be seriously hurt.

ok. so-if they have enough room, it's ok, just keep an eye on them?

I would never risk it... Even if they are far away from each other. What if your piggy does get killed? What if he gets seriously injured?
My advice? Don't put them together even if it's supervised. But, you're the guardian of the pig and rabbit, you can put them together and take the chances.

It really is up to you. If you are letting them out together for interaction then no I would not. If it is because that is the only time you can let your animals out then yes. I have to let my rabbits out with my pigs because otherwise they would only get about 2hours of floor time.
