I just got my cavy yesterday from a humane society foster home. This is what I learned from her caregiver. Her owner was moving to France and so she gave all three of her guineas to the shelter to find homes for. They were housed in a small [traditional]cage. One of the piggies was removed to another cage because he had to be treated for something. The other guinea pig that she was with would herd/force her into the castle/igloo thing and then go get attentention for him/her self. I can hold her (but I can only get her out by taking out her igloo) and I laid with her on my bed for a while last night, but other than giving her treats and spending lots and lots of time with her what are some good ways to get her to like me? Also should I get another female to be her cage mate or is it better to wait? She is around one year old. Thanks!

ps. can someone explain all the sounds/body language of a cavy or suggest a good website that does?

Find a young or senior female for a cagemate. Adopt as soon as you'd like.

A good rescue will help to match up your girl with another pig of a suitable personality.

Yeah...what Chad said! lol If you do adopt, you have to make sure you keep the seperated for the quarintine period, that's very important. See Guinea Linx for socialization info...that's where I read up on it before I put my four girls (that were in groups of two) together. I adopted 2 of them and although I wanted to see if they would get along, I didn't until the time was up, and I'm so glad I did because one had a respitory infection, wich brings me to my point...although they may look healthy, they may not be, and you don't want to get your old one sick, or vise versa.

Good luck!!
