I was going to use the grids as a stand underneath. I dont want the full cage underneath because of my 2 year old. Anyway I was thinking could I make a 2x2 "loft" underneath (rather a basement lol) and build the full 2x4 on top?
So basically the bottom would be 2x2 cage and 2x2 storage made w/ grids

Has anyone seen this?

Of course you can do that. I actually like it more than having the loft on top. I think it keeps the hay more contained.

Here's one that I found in the gallery

I did that with my rabbit cage. It was a 3x2 cage and I had a 1x2 on the bottom floor so I could let the bunnies out of their cage.
