Did you knowingly get your pig pregnant? If you bred intentionly then yes you are a breeder to a certain extent, however if it was accidental or you adopted an already pregnant pig then no, not at all!

It is true we hate breeding. This forum is run by a rescuer and has a lot of pro rescue/anti petshop/anti breeders-showers on it.

We consider a breeder to be anyone who purposely breeds their animal/s. Whether it's once or 1000 times, breeding is breeding.

We do not ban breeders from this site. We have many breeders on this board. All we ask is that they not talk about breeding or showing. Especially "how to" discussions. It is also a good idea to not even attempt to defend breeding. Those arguments can not be won on this forum. We have heard every excuse in the book and not one holds water with us.

Please read this link containing the basic rules of the forum. https://guineapigcages.com/forum/announcement.php?f=27&announcementid=7

I dont think this is a matter of like/dislike. This forum does not support breeding. Period. If you personally are a breeder than all this forum asks is that you do not talk about it here. Any other conversations you are more than welcome to join in on.

Ok am abit confused now as i know loads of people who fit all the sections in - http://www.cavyspirit.com/responsiblebreeder.htm

Does that mean anyone like that you like??.
Thanks
I have never ever met a breeder of GPs that fits all of the "responsible" requirements. I really doubt the "loads" of people like that you know have their animals

-health tested
-breed only to better the breed health
-have appropriate homes lined up before they breed
-rescue and NEVER breed their rescued animals
-keep their animals in large, clean and appropriate cages
-feed only the very best food, hay, veggies
-spend years learning about GPs and all the possible ailments/genetic defects and how to avoid them before breeding

and the biggie

-spay/neuter all the pigs they place in homes

The only people who could be following all those guidelines would be dropping thousands of dollars into their guinea pigs every year. My 9 cost me probably a $100 a month lately just for high quality food and bedding. If we also figure in neutering all babies born that are not of breeding quality and the fact that breeding leads to a much higher risk of health problems and therefore much higher vet bills you could easily surpass several thousand in a year. I've got few $100 worth of vet bills these past few months and I'm not even breeding.

Really though if you look at all the guinea pigs in shelters you should be required to do all those things if you want to breed. There's no reason to breed in the first place. Even if you did it all perfectly you could instead use that money and the homes you placed the babies in for taking in and placing homeless guinea pigs. Even for those very few breeders who meet all those requirements the guinea pigs in this world and the rescuers would be better off without them. Every guinea pig born is basically another homeless guinea pig. Even if that baby finds a home another guinea pig could have gone into that home so there is still a homeless guinea pig out there when there wouldn't be.
That is why no breeders are considered great on this forum no matter what. Some may be considered not completely evil and possibly even acceptable to get a guinea pig from if you absolutely cannot find one to adopt but otherwise mention of breeding or getting pigs from breeders will result in plenty of people upset with you.
