Bird Cage?

Would it be possible to make a bird cage out of cubes and coroplast. Let's say for a cocketiel?

I saw a picture of a cage someone made for their bird a long time ago. I think it would be fine, and its a cheap alternative to the expensive commercial cages. I've been wanting to get a cocketiel for a long time but I've also wanted a bearded dragon, chin., dog, rabbit, snake, sugerglider etc... but my parents aren't very supporting of my love for animals. *rolls eyes* For now I'll just have to make due with visiting the birds at the country max across the street. :/

So, about how big should it be? 2x2x2? :)

I would not reccomend building a cage for a small bird with cubes. Cockatiels are small enough to get either their head or their whole body stuck in the cage and receive serious injuries. It may work if you double grid.

The person who posted those pics said the cage is left open all the time; but I still feel it is too dangerous for small birds like cockatiels.

Well if you double grid it and make it like a 3x3x3 it wold be way biger than my frinds cockatiel cage!

You should use the mesh grids from linins n' things or the kid's cubes from target. I would suggest a 2x2x4(high)

From Canada. No target

Also no linen n' things

Oh, wait! your in Canada... sorry.

That's ok. I bet if I look hard enough I might find them. Not that I am getting a bird. Sorry if you thought you were going somewhere with this convo. =)

I have a cockatiel also....I thought about making a cage out of the shelving you can get at Lows. The problem with the mesh grips I think is that the spacing is so little they could not climb up it and they might get their little feet stuck in between the holes.

What about for a parakeet? The cage that I bought Is too small and I think he's getting bored with It so I've been wanting to make my own for him. Can anyone give me some Ideas on what to use?

What about using wire shelving instead? https://www.guineapigcages.com/gallery/4124/

The bars are vertical so the birdies can climb. With birds though, make sure the cage is wider than it is tall. They fly from side to side, not up and down! It will be better for them that way.

You can try using pvc pipes for a frame and then wrap hardware cloth around it. Or you could use mesh grids, or even make a frame out of regular grids and then wrap it in hardware cloth.

Around how much do you think hardware cloth costs?

I am getting quite tired of people digging up really old threads like this. You could have easily started a new topic asking your question Guinea~Lover instead of dragging up posts that are 15 months old. Geez, people start looking at the dates on the very last post in the thread BEFORE you post on it. If it's older than 2-3 months and you have nothing beneficial to add, LEAVE IT ALONE.

Well excuse me! Obviously It wasn't that old If people answered me. Plus why let an old thread go to waste.. Adding a new one will take up more room.
