I have two wonderful boy piggies and I found out that I'm severly allergic to them! :(

My eyes swell up and turn red, I get bumps and itch. I have to get rid of them and I need your guys help. I am willing to keep them until I can find someone to adopt them, so how do I get the word out? They are less than a year old, both boys (as I said). An exotic vet has seen them and given them a clean bill of health. They get plenty of veggies every day for their vitamin C and have a 2 x 3 C&C cage with a 2 X 1 second level. They have wonderful personalities. HELP!!!! This breaks my heart.

I would take them for you, but I have no room. I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry you're allergic. Are you positive it's not the hay, bedding, or some other factor? I agree with crittermom, please read that webpage before doing anything else. If you figure out that it really is the pigs and you decide to adopt them out, do a listing at www.petfinder.com under the classified section, and at (broken link removed). You can also try posting at www.guinealynx.com/forums. Best of luck!

I sooo wish I could help you out. Stupid parents! heh.Good luck!

I think I am also allergic to my guinea pigs or something associated with them. I have had the one for 3 months and another one for about 1 month. In the last month I have begun to get really red dry eyelids that have got increasingly worse and almost unbearable. I am going to try different things to try and determine if it is acutually them or the hay, bedding, urine, etc. I did by a new bag of hay a while ago and it is really dusty, so it might be that. My guinea pigs cage is in my bedroom, but I can't really do anything about that because that was the deal with getting them. My parents wouldnt have to deal with them. I really hope I can fix the problem, because I really don't see giving them up an option, I am already so attached to them, and love them soo much.

Ok, please see the link above to cavyspirit. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I'm going to read the allergies website to see what it says. Hopefully it will be something there. I know it isn't the hay or the bedding. I've dealt with all kinds of hay due to farming and I've used all kinds of bedding because I used to have hampsters too. It only happens when I touch them. Hopefully the website will help, if not - they aren't going anywhere until I'm POSITIVE I've found them a GOOD home!!

I don't have a lot of space and I am trying to only have females only to avoid accidental pregnancy. However, I am in the panhandle of MD, and I would be happy to help you keep them until a good home could be found so that you can know they are safe without going into anaphylactic shock on a regular basis.

Also, have you looked into allergy meds? They are getting better meds all the time, and a lot of things are available over the counter that didn't used to be.

I would take them for you, but I live in Vermont.
