Hi
I know there have been some threads about this, but I hope it's okay for me to make another one. I was on Amazon, looking for a guinea pig carrier when I realized I really didn't know what to get. I'm the kind of person who spends hours looking at carriers, reading through all the reviews, before finally making a decision. But every time I think I found a good carrier, I read a couple bad reviews that have me wondering...should I really get that? I'm looking for one that can fit two guinea pigs comfortably. I would love to see your recommendations!
Thanks in advance.

How do you plan on using it? Just trips to the vet, or for longer trips?

A normal cat or dog carrier is fine. Hard plastic is better since it won't give way like cloth carriers. I use a cat carrier.

I’m thinking no longer than 30 minutes.

I would just get a normal carrier like you get at a pet store. I have a cat one which opens from the top and from the front, but if I could choose again (due to money and all), I would go for a larger dog carrier.

I put fleece or a washable potty pad inside, and give them a bit of hay during the drive.

If you're doing just one pig at a time, a small one will do. But if you would like it to be more useful in an emergency, like for transporting two pigs, I'd get a plastic cat carrier.

I have two carriers. One is a cat carrier. This is for use in transporting to the veterinarian.

I also have a larger small dog carrier. This carrier will transport two pigs comfortably. Both carriers have been slightly modified to accommodate a water bottle.

The larger carrier is for emergencies. If I need to leave quickly, both pigs will go in this carrier along with my emergency bag with pig supplies.

I use a soft small dog carrier for trips to the vet, which has openings on the top and one end. It fits two piggies comfortably. I also have a larger hard dog carrier that can fit all three guinea pigs if I have to evacuate. It also opens on the top and one end. For me, it is very important that the carrier has a top opening. Both carriers were through Craig's List, the soft one being purchased and the larger hard carrier for free.

I see the heavy plastic ones at thrift stores all the time and that’s where I found one. It’s the size for a cat or small dog. It has a tab to tuck the seat belt in and I can hang the water bottle on the door. I took it apart, completely washed it. It’s in really good condition and only cost $9.00.
