Besides coroplast?

I don't have a guniea pig yet and I'm planning on getting one soon. I decided to make my own cage to fit on top of a dresser.

Is there any other materials I can use for the floor of the cage besides coroplast? It's a little too expensive for me to buy right now.

Thanks for the help.

Hello there Hydes Girl,

You might want to re-think putting your cavies on your dresser. They will run around and jump in their cage when they get excited, which is great to watch. But in the process, they end up scattering their bedding-and even their poop-right out of the cage! You might end up with guinea-poops in your clothes! ;-) But you can also have the inner walls up a little high to catch most of it.

As far as your original question-we can't think of any cheaper substitute for coroplast-but that doesn't mean there isn't something else you could use. Good luck!

Also, make sure the cage is big enough and if you have the room try to get two pigs.

If you can't afford coroplast (about 20 bucks) how do you expect to be able to afford and emergancy vet trip?

I use linoleum for my cage and to get it cheap, you can ask for offcuts from your local carpet shop

I can afford a emergency vet visit.

I was just looking for a cheaper alternative.

Don't jump down my throat. I live in a small town where it's hard to find coroplast.

Plus if I can save a few dollars I'll have more money if I need that emergency vet visit.

Oh, and ericndeedee, I don't really have to worry about poop in my clothes. Most of my clothes never make it to the dresser. It's more there for decoration. :)

I was not jumping down your throat, it was a reasonable question. try going to www.harborsales.com they may ship free to you, since your in PA, its really cheap if they will.

Are you crazy its 61 dollars to ship it to me and Im in pa too.

I got my coroplast for only $10, you just have to look!

I paid 16 at kinkos but they raised the price last month to 25 bucks. But I'd rather pay 25 bucks than paying 61 bucks for shipping.

I get free shipping, as I said, it depends where you live.

If you have a print shop where you live, you should be able to get coroplast there. I live in a tiny town too and found coroplast here. Just didn't find cubes here. The other alternative is linoleum.

I live in Northern VA and when I tried to get coroplast from Harbor Sales I couldn't because they don't ship to residiential areas and such.

One usually easy to find alternative if you don't have any large pets like dogs or cats, is a child's wading pool. I got 2 at Toys R Us for $7 each and the grids fit perfectly around them. What I currently use is two underbed storage containers. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond, and they seem to work really well.

Heh, I'm glad I live where I live, they ship to my apartment repeatedly.
