Just a quick question! I got a bag of mixed lettuce's and it has some strips of beetroot in them. Should I take them out or can the piggies eat them?

Thank you!!

I think they would be fine to eat them. They can eat beets and beet greens, so I don't really see how beetroot would harm them. I can't find anything that says they can't eat them, so I think they'll be fine. Good luck.

I'm confused... a beet IS a root. So, what's a beet root??

Baby Bears, a beetroot is the beet. The round, red part of a beet is the beetroot. The leaves are beet greens. Sorry, my post must have been a bit confusing. Basically, yes, they can eat the whole beet: beetroot and beet greens. (Look at guinealynx veggie chart)

They can eat it but it is very very high in oxalates that cause stone formation in them so if you can avoid beetroot then you should do so.

Can they eat radishes? I checked the GL chart but I didn't see it.

I think they can laura, but I don't know if they would like it. I don't like radishes unless they have salt on them...the taste is too bitter and kind of spicy.

Yes they can have mild radishes but they shouldn't be fed more than a couple of times a month.

Beets (beetroot) is fine as well. They can be fed a couple times per week in small portions. Beets are actually fairly high in sugar.

What about radish leaves?

They are high in calcium. Feed no more than 1-2 times per week in small portions, (2-3 leaves per pig).
