Ferrets Bedding: How to make covers for the Ferret/Critter Nation.

So, on another site that I play I was asked to make a tutorial on how to make covers for the mat/pad things in a Ferret/Critter nation.. so let's get started!


Step 1:
Get all your material ready, like in this picture.




Step 2:
Write down the measurements, (I have already writen them down, but if you'd like to make sure, you can measure)




Step 3:
Spread out your fabric (I had 3 yards), measure and cut (make sure to do two of them for both levels, that is if you have the double or triple unit)






Once you have done that, mark 2 inches all the way around the fabric and iron it down.

If you didn't understand what I meant, here are some pictures..


Step 4: Sewing

When you sew, I only did one line, and I went back and forth with it, make sure you only sew the sides and not the actual liner, or the corners will not go in.

When you are finished it should look like this:




Step 5: The Top mat:

You do the same thing, except don't sew the left corner, all you have to do is mark about 2 inches and cut it off, as in the first picture them at an angle cut so it can fold over, then like the same way with the others, sew the corners tight, and the other will fold over nicely.


At this point, it should look something like this.

Step 6: The small pans

Get you pan out and measure it (measurments are there if your like me and to lazy to redo it )
Cut it out, mark the two inches like the other pans and iron it, don't forget to do two to save time.
You sew it just like the others one, it's not different.

Congratulations! You are finished.

Additional information for ferret owners.

So, lot's of people complain about ferret litter boxes, how ferrets drag them everywhere...

Here's a way the solve this, you will need:


A Drill or a hole burner thing.
1 Nut, 1 screw, and a bolt



Step one:
Drill or burn a hole where you want to attach the box to, once you can fir the screw in it, you are done.


Put the screw, facing outward

Put the box next to the cage, and from the outside, put the nut between the bars
Screw the bolt in, and your set! It won't move at all

Thank you, but mice love to dig and nest, fleece isn't really for mice you should use pet store bedding, (if you can use paper based as the wood can irritate there skin) if CareFRESH is to expensive use Critter Care, it's almost the same. Good luck with your mice

Oh okay, : ) just making sure. I'm sure they'll love it, but you will most likely have to replace it a lot. Mice LOVE to shred things :3

I love this thread!! Thank you so much @Rabbit_Lover! I just adopted my first Chinchilla yesterday and I decided that the Ferret Nation would be perfect for her and her baby. I was worried about he chewing on the plastic bases so this will help big time!

@edcaguy I hope so. There really easy! But I would suggest you do like 3 or 4 inches instead of 2. My fuzzies get under them pretty easy.

Update:

Hope I can do this, but anyway. The OP said 2 inches, well my fuzzies could get under them to easy. I know they are carpet sharks, but didn't want them digging under.
I went out and bought new fleece from Joanne's, two yards of there new 'Cowboy boots n spurs' and another purple, with horses on it.
I used 4 inches instead and I love them, the fuzzies no longer get under them.
