okay, i'm trying to potty-train my piggies(2 sows) so if you don't wanna hear about bathroom things don't read further.

when i went over to check their cage, i noticed that one of them had pee'd in the potty pan but it wasn't yellow-ish. it was more of a murkey white. :( is this normal? I'm supposed to make an appointment with a vet tomorrow but i'd like to know if that's bad or not?

I need answers ASAP please! I'm going to make a list of things for the vet to check and if this isn't normal i would like to make sure to put in on the list. so far, my list is as follows:

  • Why won't my pigs eat their veggies?
  • Why is their pee murkey white?
not much of a list which is great. please please please help!

Sometimes their pee is milky/murkey white because they are getting rid of extra calcium. My pigs did that for a long time until I cut back on the higher calcium veggies (carrots, spinach and parsley) and now they pee yellow again. They are getting just enough calcium but not too much.

As far as the veggies, were they eating them before and have now stopped or have they ever eaten them? It's hard to answer questions without having more information. Are they drinking water ok, eating pellets and hay ok?

they're drinking their water & eating their hay/pellets great. i just put in some fresh lettuce with just a few pieces of baby carrots & sweet potato. i think i put a sprig of parsley in there too. and two small slices of celery. i'll check in the morning to see what/if they ate.

thanks,
Jessica

Jessica, how often are you giving them baby carrots and parsley?

how old are the pigs and where did you get them from, if they are young and petstore pigs they might no know what veggies are

I think you should change your veggies. They are not benefitting from your choices. Introduce them to cilantro, romaine, a little kale 2 times a week, definately sweet peppers, try a small piece of orange 2 times a week. Stay away from potatoe, regular lettuce, too much carot, not nourishing enough.

I'm giving them romaine, i went to the store to buy red peppers yesterday and they were $5 each. i dont have enough money to buy them. i tried kale and left it in there over night + the next morning and they wouldn't eat it. i dont give them baby carrots usually but i gave them a treat. the parsley was also a treat and i put in *very little* ie one tiny little leafy piece. i was told sweet potatos/yams are fine in moderation so that was a treat too. i know not to give them reg. lettuce and potatoes.

are you sure its 5 dollars each, thats probably the price per pound. Parsly is good, you can give them a small handfull. They will eat the veggies if you mix it in with there old stuff, or if that is all they have at the time.

Sorry dagwell but parsley is not a good everyday veggie. Too much calcium. Cilantro is almost the same but better for them and can be given everyday.
