I was considering giving my senior girl Cinnamon a bath since she had a mat (after trimming it to get rid of anything that may have been stuck). But since I joined this forum a few months ago I realized I know almost nothing about bathing Guinea pigs.

I was using baby soap which I now know is bad so if anyone knows of any good soaps for Guinea pigs I would really appreciate it.

Also I was bathing them if needed, sometimes once a year. Before Peanut Butter passed a few months ago I was bathing him more frequently since he was having issues with grooming himself but I know that isn’t good or needed for healthy Guinea pigs.

Leo is a senior now, also with mobility issues. I purchased Johnson's small animal shampoo to try our and its been fine so far. It has a light lemony scent, its mild and safe for guinea pigs. If you bathe them, try to do it as little as possible. Even butt baths are preferable than a full bath unless its needed.

Never submerge the pig. Water up the nose is a virtual guarantee for a sinus infection, and it can become chronic like my boy Simons was. IF you bathe them, just wash their face by hand with a cloth and don't dunk water on them forward of their ears.

Thank you so much. I will definitely do a butt bath instead since the mat is on her butt.
