Now that my pigs have lice, I have contacted a guinea pig vet for some advise and he told me to wash them with flea and tick dog shampoo. I know I can't wash them everyday, but how often could I wash my pigs? I plan to wash them everytime I clean the cage to prevent infestation (I clean once a week.)

Also, the vet mentioned a type of washing they do for pig lice. Has anyone had this done? Was it effective? I'm not paying 35$ a pig to get a regular washing done that I can do myself.

Thanks

One of my pigs had lice when I got her, all we did was use the flea and tick shampoo for puppies and kittens. We washed the cage and the pig weekly and combed her with a lice comb for dogs. We were also told to go to the vet and have them do it but it was much easier and less stressful to the pig to do it ourselves and she has no more lice now so, it works.
