HI,I was wondering how you give a cavy a bath,do you just fill the tub with a tiny bit of water and bunny or ferret shampoo or do actully have too lather them?Is 1 week to young to give them a bath because my sow just give birth and the whole family smells because there hidey house has a plastic bottom and they will push the carefresh or towel out and pee and poop in it and then sleep there, or or should i not give the babys a bath because the will mommy just clean them?i just think giving them a bath together would be less stressfull.

I have a shampoo from professional pet products that is from sensitive pets.It says it is tearless and for dry or normal or oily skin it is for puppies, kittens, ferrets, rabbits and hamsters and it has a smell .I was wondering if anyone knew if it is ok .

Thanks alot.

The shampoo is probably okay. I wouldn't give your babies a bath yet, They are too young and could slip and drown. Mom is okay to have a bath, though.

thanks slap its just the babies would freak if there mom was gone and so would my sow......

I would say lather them up. If you put it in the water, the soap will act more like a bubble bath then soap. You can't get clean from a bubble bath, you still have to use soap. Piggies are the same.

As for age, I'm not sure. I've never had young pups. Maybe one of the more experienced members can help you with that.

As for the shampoo. I use a kitten shampoo that sounds similar. It smells like baby shampoo but it works just fine. Just make sure it has no flea or tick products in it.

Edit: Slap was quicker then me and got to the age thing. My husband needed my help for a second while typing 0.o

the shampoo kinda smells like sun tan oil.

What brand?

you mean the shampoo professional pet products

no its not that one it in a clear bottle and the shampoo is yellow

Oh, then I don't think I can find it online. But I know of a strange but good way to tell .This is how I do it.

I have horrible skin allergies. Especially to soap and glue. So when I buy a new shampoo I test a bit on my skin. If it dries out my skin or I get a rash, I don't use it. If it doesn't I give it a cautious try.

I break out when in contact with anything harsher then the Body Shop's gylcerin soap. I can't even use thier body wash.

It's like volentary reverse animal testing. Even with out allergies you can at least see if your skin feels dry afterwards. It is truly the only way you will really know.

I dont think its a good idea to give them a bath. Its too stressful and they could catch a cold. Not very important right now.

I agree. Give mom a bath and maybe just take the house they pee in out. Mom will clean the babies.

Maybe you could use a warm damp wash cloth on the babies if mom won't wash them. But not too damp.

dont worry i not giving them a bath and sabriel that a good idea :)
