I was wondering if it is safe for cavies to have bananas because I gave my girl a little peice and she seemed to like it. She has been acting pretty normal. I was also wondering what websites you people shop for your piggies from because all of the stores around here sell animals.

Bananas are fine, as long as they are fed in moderation. Like all fruit, they have a lot of sugar so they should only be given to the cavies 2-3 times a week.

Bannanas are not very good at all and are only a once in a while thing.

I give a sliver of banana maybe once a week, if that much. I do alot of my shopping on line at critters.com for toys and food, kleemania for hay and bunnybytes for treats.

Yes, pennick me too. I hardly ever give them banana, just as a treat, but I've read somewhere that it's alright for them to have a few times a week, although I myself don't.

You mean critterstore.com and what are bunnybytes and what is kleemania?

I was wondering if this would make a could cavy cosie-->(broken link removed)

Banana is Turbo's absolute favorite. He only gets it after I do something "mean" to him, like trim his nails or clean his bum.

Banana can constipate. One of slap's pigs got very constipated after eating some banana not long ago. It's recommended in very small portions (like a 1/4" thick slice) about 1-2 times a month.

It's not Kleemania, it's Kleenmama. She sells excellent hay and she has now started making pellets. She currently has alfalfa based pellets for sale and the timothy based pellets will be coming soon. Her website is (broken link removed).

It's ok to use for piggies. In my own experiences though the pigs just squish them flat and then can't get in them. Look in the accessories forum for more ideas on cozies/cuddle cups/cavy caves, etc.

Hm, I forget where I learned about banana, but it didn't say it could cause constipation! I guess you learn something new everyday. -goes to tell pigs they can't have much banana anymore-
