Bald spots??

We brought our Guinea Pig home from the pet store 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately he was infested with mites and lice, which we did not realize until a week later. We noticed a few scabby spots on his back and some "dandruff" which ended up being the lice. After a $65.00 vet visit and an ivomec shot the mites and lice are dying off. But he now has big bald patches on his back. Does anyone know if the hair will grow back? The poor little guy! He is much happier now that he isn't scratching constantly. I raised all kinds of heck with the pet store and they did offer to cover my vet bill. All their animals are supposed to be vet checked before sale. Hmmm...I guess lil' Porky must have slipped right past the vet that day. Anyway, just wondering if I'm going to have to invest in a Piggy hairpiece to cover his naked spots. LOL.

I would just call the vet and ask him. I hope he's okay!

Well he has to go back in 4 days for another ivomec treatment. The skin underneath is very pink and soft. He had big scabs there that have come off (along with the hair). I feel so bad for the little guy! We didn't know how bad it was at first because we didn't handle him much the first week we had him. He was a biter. But I think he was biting us because he was in pain. He has since stopped the biting. Plus he has that "bed head" hair (for lack of a better term) with the cowlicks and they were hard to see. I was steaming mad at the petshop! I don't know how they could have let him get so bad. We had never had a pig before so we were pretty much ignorant of such things but they should have caught it in my opinion. Oh, well he is officially spoiled rotten now :) He squeaks at my 3 sons if they walk by his cage without stopping to pet him! I think we are creating a monster. LOL.

When I first got my silky Salem he was almost completly bald. I didnt know any better but my parents thought he might have ring worm. So we took him to the vet and he got his shots and now almost three yesrs later he has long gorgous hair that regularly has to be trimed to keep him clean. Is your pig a long or short hair? I wouldnt worry too much but ask your vet just to be sure. Good luck!

The piggy should have 2-3 treatments spaced 7-10 days apart. And yes, the hair will grow back very quickly. Mine have mites right now, and I am undergoing this treatment also. Good luck! =)

Oh good! He has lost even more since I posted the first time. But, the scabs are gone so I don't think he'll loose anymore. He goes again on Tuesday for another treatment.
