Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum & the website. I was just wondering where the cavy's should keep coming from if we're so strongly angainst breeding?
Of course one should not breed without having a home for the youngsters, that I can onderstand. But they have to keep coming from some place, don't they?

kindest regards,

Veerle (Belgium)

there will never be a time in this world that EVERYONE stops breeding guinea pigs (therefore never running out of them). but by being a responsible owner to your pet and to the guinea pig over-population by not breeding, you can help with this problem, instead of being a part of it.

breeding also puts the female at a higher risk of health problems.

i just dont understand why people would want to breed their piggies (plus put them at a risk of dying) when there are hundreds of guinea pigs that need homes because they were unwanted. please do NOT breed your piggies if you were planning to. its not worth it.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Don't worry I won't breed and didn't plan to. I didn't know there was an overpopulation and maybe there isn't allways and everywhere because I remember having a hard time to find cavy's 13 Years ago. Someone gave me 2 cavy's but one died of cancer and I learned they were social anymals so I was looking for 1 or 2 "friends".

As long as there is an overpopulation it's very logic to discourage breeding. But I don't agree on the "healt-risc" reason. Having few baby's is not realy unhealty, although things can go wong. For people too, there is this risc, but all mothers are willing to take this risc for themselves. For women too it is healty to have some children if they have them on a proper age that is.

Anyway, it shouldn't be possible to get any animal imediatly and without any information. Maybe a cavy-licence would help :)

have a nice day!

Veerle
