Hi 2 weeks ago my female rosetta(white with black eyes)gave birth to 4 healthy babies.but the wierd thing is 2 are hairless (skinnys)1 is longhaired i think and the other is really curly.i dont see how we got that when the father was a regular albino guinea pig.can anyone explain to me how that can happen?
thanks
Rosie

First, theres no "regular albino cavy" Albinoism is not found in cavies. Chances are one was a Hairless carrier (most likely a Skinny since Baldwins are born WITH hair and then it falls out in about 5 days). Do you have pictures?

what i meant buy a regular albino guinea pig is an american guinea pig that is white and has red eyes.i will have to see if i can get pictures.1 of the babies is really curly.what breed could that be?i no its not a rosetta.i will try and put pics up.
thanks
Rosie

Hi, how long have you had Rosetta? Did you breed her? Was she with any other males? She could actually have piglets from 2 different boars if she was bred closely by 2 different boars. Otherwise I would gather that both mom and dad would have had to had a "skinnys" recessive gene, if my biology is right.

They're called PEWs. Pink-eyed whites.

yea please try and get a picutre up. that would help a lot better.

no i have had her for 3 weeks and i bought her pregnant.when i asked what the father was they said that he was a white american with red eyes.

who is "they"? if it is a pet store or breeder or something, they probably just have wrong information, again. The curly one might be a texel if they were wrong, depending on the father.

Cavy genetics isn't something that I know a lot about. Either way, be glad that they're healthy and that the delivery went ok--congrats!

hmmm...sounds like you've got an interesting mix! By my fault, my sow Agnes got pregnant by one of my males. She's a tri-color satin, and the daddy Oscar was a pink eye-white (he recently passed away=(). She gave birth to 2 healthy babies the day after Oscar died. The wierd thing is that one of the babies is an agouti, and the other one a tortie. I'm curious to know where the Agouti coloring came from. Do you know their sexes yet? I think I have one male and one female baby, but I'm bringing them to the exotics specialists to make sure.

Why dont you name the boy Oscar jr

yes the white skinny is a female and the black and white skinny is a male.the white long haired is a female and the curly is a female

hello just wanted to say i had a great christmas and my bew resetta sow is dew any day now

So you have another pregnant sow, is that what you mean?

Yes, I am wondering, how did you get a pregnant sow?
Congratulations on the babies. I hope you sexed them all correctly then seperated the male from the females? Did you get the male a companion? What size cage do you have? If you have 5 girls in a cage, you will need a 2x7 or 3x6, 4x5, 5x5, ect. Bigger the better.
