Ok, this isn't for a guinea pig but I figure there are some pretty crafty people on here and maybe one of you can help me figure this out!!

I was trying to make a mini superman cape - I couldn't find a single superman patch ANYWHERE so I cross stitched my own version. The problem is - now I don't know how to get it attached to the felt cape I made without the canvas I stitched it on unraveling. (hope that makes sense)
[GuineaPigCages.com] Attn: Crafty People - I need HELP! Here's a pic of the "patch" I made. Sorry it's sideways - I took the pic with my phone and can't get it to re-orient on here...

Any ideas on how to attach this to the cape without it unraveling is greatly appreciated!! I may have already shot myself in the foot by cutting it out, I did it so there wouldn't be the excess bulk of the extra canvas behind it.

Thanks for the help! (or even just reading if you don't have any ideas)

I'm sorry i can't offer any advice, but you've done a great job so far :D i wish i could do things like this.

pin it on to your cape then zig zag stitch around the edge, this will hold it to cape and prevent fraying ❤️

on a machine**

I was hoping to avoid using my sewing machine because it tends to jam if the fabric is too thick, not that the canvas and felt is REALLY thick but I don't want to risk ruining it if there is another way... Any other ideas? I guess I'll try to use my sewing machine if no one else has a better solution...

if you're not in a hurry to have this done NOW - check out Herrschner's catalogue. i've seen something there, tho i've never used it, that you can use to take a regular piece of clothing and cross stitch something on to it, and then somehow remove the cross stitch material so all you have left is the cross stitches themselves. hope that makes sense. it's popular around christmas time especially

mymachines like that! it only accepts one type of thread lol i gues you could attempt zig zag by hand? practice on something else first though! or even try and applique it on?

the edge of this owl's body is applique, its just really close stitches,

You could buy some hemming tape stuff (sorry don't know the name), but I would practice and get it to be double sided and then iron it onto the fabrics and it holds extremely well. No sewing required :).

Side note that owl is freaking adorable! I think I have inspiration to make something now :)

I can't iron it to the felt, because the felt will melt but I could do that so the edge sticks to the back and *hopefully* doesn't fray and then stitch it on by hand!! Thanks for all the ideas :)

Feel free to keep them coming in case this doesn't work :/

Felt is my least favorite fabric next to canvas. I thought about it melting after I said something! My sewing machine hates felt (broke 2 needles trying to sew something). I want to see you finished product! Pictures when you finish?

I chose felt because I thought it would be easiest/cheapest. It has worked well so far, but I don't fancy using my sewing machine on it...

As long as nobody laughs I'll post pics when it's finished (if I ever get it finished). I'm making it for a little stuffed doggy so he can be a "Super Puppy!" lol It would be a cute guinea pig cape too, if they wouldn't chew on it. lol

Cut an inch selvage around the whole thing and fold it at 1.5 and 1.5 twice so the frayed edge will be inside the seam. Iron it and hand stitch the "hem" to the back of the patch so it doesn't show. I hope this makes sense. Or you can just zig zag a couple of times around the canvas about an inch from the patch and cut the excess off just after the stitching. Fold it over and stitch to the back of the patch. I've done that when I've hemmed pants and it worked.

hey my husband said he would pay you make him a patch
he is a huge superman fan with a huge superman collection

Really? LOL! I'd do it if you want to, it didn't take me too long to make that one but it's only 2" wide at the largest part. I could make a bigger one too. PM me if you're serious about this :)

Your sewing machine might be jamming because you need a heavier needle. A size 16 or 18.
