Aspen/Pine Bedding

I have heard many people talk about aspen pine for bedding. Is there a big difference between aspen and just pine shavings? If so what is the difference. I ask only because I am currently using Carefresh and have no problems other than the fact that it is very expensive. It costs me about $16-20 per month. At the Tractor Supply Co. near me, they sell large bags of pine shavings for about $5/bag. This at least seems more economical being that the bag would be able to last me well over a month. I know that many people say that pine is not the best being that it can cause health problems, but any input would be great!

Kiln-Dried pine is perfectly fine for guinea pigs. Also, if you needed/wanted to get pine, that is not kiln-dried, then air out the pine for a few days.

I use aspen chips for Percy for a couple of reasons. A)Carefresh is more expensive, and Percy likes to run around and kick his bedding out. B)Several years ago, the owner of a private pet store that I used to go to asked me how I would like it if the area I lived in constantly smelled like pine or cedar all the time, and I couldn't get away from it?

The aspen is cheaper and odorless, except for a natural smell, and even that only lasts a day or so after out of the bag. I've been using it for years for my hamsters and now for Percy as well.

I use pine that does smell at all. I guess it must be kiln dried. My piggies love it just fine.

I first used pine and I couldnt stand the smell so I changed to aspen and I love it.

I get my Aspen from TSC as well. Aspen is about $4 more then Pine at the one I go to (Alliance). I also noticed that their Pine (even though Kiln Dried) smelled very Piney.
