Are my guinea pigs bored?

I have three guinea pigs. They have a house which is attached to a run. I am worried that they are bored because they only have a ball of hay in thier run, a bowl of carrots and cucumber, some grass and a little igloe, do you think I should get some more things?

You can add inexpensive toys in their house. Things like tennis balls, cereal packets, brown paper bags, tupperware, cardboard boxes, socks filled with hay. Basically, free stuff!

Thank you!

Its ok =) I just thought of an other thing. I sometimes thread some veggies on a string then hang that across the cage. Kepps them entertained for a while!

Fill their whole space with crumpled-up newspapers. Mine goes nuts when I do this.

Give them things to explore. Timothy's favorites: a snowball on a plate, big rubber boots, a metal pail, flower pots, all kinds of balls, rocks, bricks or large tiles .....

The newspaper thing sounds good. I may give that a go

Are you giving them other veggies besides carrots and cucumber?

I give my cavies a sock and they go nuts. They go running around their cage and start pooping everywhere! It is funny to look at, but a pain to clean up.

I only give them carrots and cucumber because I dont know what else you can give them.

Ok, those two vegetables have hardly any nutritional value. Cucumbers are full of water and carrots can be dangerous if given too much. Go to www.guinealynx.com

Variety is the key, so don't give the same food day in day out. Grass is excellent to give because its free and they love it. Romaine lettuce, green pepper, parsley and cilantro (coriander) are also good favourites

I have just put some green pepper down for my piggies and they are allready eating it! THANKS!

Mine love green pepper to, although its quite expensive over here

My pig loves to play around in a small brown paper bag. He also loves to eat it. Heh..

I change their toys every few days. I have different houses for them. Tubes, boxes, bird toys. Every few days I change them in their cage so its like have something new all over again.

Cool, I will try that!

Pennick, that's a cool idea. You could keep a laundry basket or small bin under your cage table/stand to store 'extra' toys when they're not in the cage.

I have different cozies, toys, houses for mine too. They always have to have at least one of their pvc pipes in there. My girls have toys that hang on the side of the cage and from under the loft grids. They have balls with bells in them and a little stuffed mouse they love to throw around and a cat sized tennis ball. I give my girls paper bags and newspaper balls to play with during floortime.

Another thing that helps is rearranging the things in the cage. When I do a cage cleaning I rearrange where everything goes (except their litter pan) and it's like a game to them seeing where all the things are. They get all excited and popcorn like crazy.

Mine pop about when I simply clean the cage. No furniture rearranging necessary!

My girls popcorn a lot. Not just when I rearrange their stuff. But they love to inspect the new layout when it's done and it really does help piggie boredom. I love how my girls will rearrange some things on their own when they don't like where I put something. It's funny to watch.
