I think I have an abbyssinian cavy. Has the hair that stick ups and wont stay down. I have had the same kind of cavy previously and I have found that this breed is less skitish and more loveable than the others which I have had and still have. Does anyone else find this to be true?

Nope. I find that it all comes down to individual personality, not breeds. That's why I love guinea pigs. They're small, but they've got such a big heart :)

I also do find that abby is less skittish... My Joojoo was an abby and he LOVED me... he would sleep on top of my chest while I was lying down and won't run off unlike my current short-hair pigs... and make a lot of noise too... are yours the same? They make sounds when they walk... and purrs more often when you pet them

I have an abyssian/pervian...he's pretty skittish.

I think its probably just your lucky to have really gentle pigs.

All piggys have such different personalitys, its amazing.

Does he run when you try to pick him up? Or he'll just tense up not moving...

yes she still runs when she sees my hand coming but she is much easier to grasp than my other one. Also I had her for a week before I adopted the other one so I bonded quickly with her and I guess she became my favorite and I havent tried to bond as much with the other one. The second one was adopted as a cage mate.

He tenses up with he's not moving, and yes, he runs crazy when I try to pick him up...

No, I don't find that true. All of my pigs were skittish when I got them, but I've had my Abby for over a month, he's gotten used to me and I see that he's very comfortable, but he runs like crazy when he's sees me coming. I just think it's a matter of personality. Remember, guinea pig 'breeds' weren't created for temperament, but for physical appearance(or at least I don't believe so).
