I am thinking of getting a guinea pig for my three year old and I.
I was wondering if it is O.K. to use a aquarium as a cage .
I have never had a guinea pig before or knew anyone that had one.
I am a lil in the dark. :)

No, an aquarium is one of the worst housing options for a guinea pig. I suggest you read this page https://guineapigcages.com/ for proper housing. Read this (https://www.guinealynx.info/healthycavy.html) for general care information. THis page might help you out too; https://www.cavyspirit.com/kidsandguineapigs.htm. Also read around this page; https://www.cavyspirit.com/
I'm glad you decided to do your reasearch before going out to get your pig. When you feel you are ready you should adopt a pair, www.petfinder.com is a great way to find homeless guinea pigs in your area.

I just found this forum about an hour ago.
You guys keep talking about c&c cages?
I feel so lost .

Just scroll up. Hit the "HOME" button and start reading. You will understand C&C cages in no time.

Then go to https://cavyspirit.com and read that website too.

Please read the links in my post. It's alot of information but deffinatly worth it, take the time to learn the correct way to care for your potential pigs.

Thank you for doing your research first. Many, many pigs die in shelters because of people who choose to buy at pet stores or breeders without knowing shelters and rescues exist.

Make sure you read the links that dagwellismypigy gave you.

Thank you.

The lady across the street from me suggested the aquarium. It just didn't feel right.I had to find out.

I told her that I went to the pet store to scope out some cages, and I couldn't believe how much they were.
Lets just say they were way ,way to expensive.

The C&C cages look really nice and not so expensive.:)

They are very cost effective and fun to make! You can add space, make levels, and rearrange endlessly!

I bought a pet store cage (largest Super Pet one availible) that was 5.25 sq. ft. at $60.00. Then I built my first C&C cage, which was 10.5 sq. ft., at only $30.00! Double the size at half the price.

Aside from the cage guinea pigs need a friend, floor time, a constant supply of hay, daily vegetables, and a house or hiding place. You'll find more on all of those needs on this site, cavyspirit.com, and (broken link removed).
A petstore is a bad place to get a guinea pig. They spread very bad info such as guinea pigs only need 2sq ft of space or selling you vitamins that will only stress out the guinea pigs' system. Your also alot more likely to get a guinea pig with mites or respiratory illness from a petstore than a shelter. Try petfinder.com or (broken link removed).
