Ok - you cannot see mites since the burrow beneath the skin. What you are describing sounds like lice. Lice can be seen crawling through the fur and they can create great discomfort for animals. What you need is Adavantage. I bought mine over the internet and the advantage was for kittens. I believe that guinea pigs/dogs/cats require the same dosage.

For guinea pigs it should be just one drop behind the back of the neck I believe. Advantage or Revolution works, it will be around $40 for the treatment.

All the places I have looked, internet suppliers, have been around $40. Vet's offices are the same.

I just looked and they did have the under 5 lb. category which was $26. They don't sell that in may places.

The vet that our local rescue centre prescribed Stronghold (selamectin) for our pig's ear mites when she was first brought in. This is also used for treating lice. I didn't pay for it as the rescue paid for the initial treatment. It cost about £20 for 3 months treatment (just under $40).
