I've been introducing atticus and dagwell for a while and now that their domanince issue seems to be over they are sharing the cages its working out great! I just gave them their first floor time together it was great too! Previously i had given them their own floor times alone which ended up being laptime because they just stayed there but once they were out together its was a pig-a-looza. They were running and popcorning and squealling. Dagwell managed to escape (dont worry the whole house is piggy-proofed" )and Atticus was all confused and started squeling at the top of his lungs so that Dagwell could rescue him. It was really sweet when Dagwell came running back into the room.

Also i was wondering if it would be OK to give them both timothy food and timothy hay if I give Atticus alfalfal blocks(not oxbow but local hay stuff)?

Is this safe to use the guy at the feed store said it would get rid of mites(neither of them had them before they got together...)

sorry I do not know

It only says its effective on ticks and fleas. Do guinea pigs even get fleas? I would stick to ivermectin for mite control

I cant afford to go to the vet ... my mom just got fired so thats not a choice at the moment.

You don't HAVE to go to the vet for ivermectin. If you know what you are doing, you can treat them for mites at home. Sorry about your mum =(

Thats the problem... I dont know what im doing and I dont trust myself enough to do it at home.

I treated for mites today. I was a bit nervous before, but there's nothing to it. I can help you if you want or you can go to guinea lynx (there's lots of information but there's so much its hard to take in)

Could u advise me?

Sure. I bought a horse paste called vectin over the internet. I found it on a wormers website (for horses). You need to make sure that ivermectin is the active ingredient. In a container, I squirted out 1/3 of the tube (enough to treat a 200kg horse. I pushed down too hard on the syringe and too much came out!). You need to dilute because it is too strong. I mixed the paste with 40 ml of warm water. I shook the container for a minute. It started to turn white after a bit. The dosage is 0.2ml/kg. I got a needleless syringe and put how much I needed in there. I picked up my piggy and inserted the syring into his mouth. Thats it!

You can also get topical ivermectin - you put it on their skin
Injectible ivermectin - I wouldn't advise you to do that

The other option is the vet. I had to use the oral, because its hard to find ivermectin in England

I cant buy stuff off the internet..money..shiping...credit. Its against the new rules... :(

Also i already bought it . Ill use it and see if it works and let you all know!

Against the rules? What, your parents rules?

But it says that its ONLY for fleas and ticks. I'm not sure if it is suitable for mites. Again, I never knew that guinea pigs get fleas and I don't think they do...

I talked to the guy at the pet store (techniacally feed store... no live animals) He had guinea pigs and said that this would deffinatly get rid of the mites.

My moms rule its just my mom so there no income kinda so yeah.

Oh, ok then. See how it goes. The ivermectin only cost me 7 pounds, which is probably $5

Thanks for your help thogh! bye

That spray you showed doesn't cure mites. I tried that, and ended up just going to the vet. Because the mites were getting out of hand, and at the time I did not want to treat them myself.
You can use Revolution for cats or kittens to cure mites in guinea pigs. The dosing is easier than live stock Ivermectin.

Tell me how to and where to get it and how much.

I found the ivermectin dosing was really easy. Took me 5 minutes to prepare it

Im just afraid of overdosing numbers arent my strong point..

Also how do you weigh your pigs? They're to light for a bathroom scale.. im at a loss

Try a kitchen scale. I've got an electronic scale, so its really accurate
