Advice on corners

Although I clean out the cage frequently and spot clean every day, my pig Nixa just won't stop eating and loudly tearing the newspaper lining especially first thing in the morning. I know that there is unlikely to be any leakage from the corners of the correx but I want to make absolutely certain. I've recently been putting newspaper just at the corners but she still wakes me up way too early in the morning with her tearing it and I really can't stand it anymore especially as I'm in the middle of my exams and stressed enough as it is. Does anyone have any suggestions for stopping the chance of any leaks other than newspaper?

On a completely different note: I just constructed a sort of cavy cozy out of the cat's bed and Nixa loves it but the cat is not impressed at all. It's quite funny.

What beding are you using? Just that something like megazorb (broken link removed) is very absorbant and also quite heavy, so if you put a few handfuls of that in the corners and pat it down, then it's really unlikely any urine will leak out or that they will move it all either. With a decent amount of any bedding in place I don't think the corners are likely to leak, but I understand why you want to be sure!

You could also seal the corners with a drop of non-toxic glue. I don't know which would be okay to use - I'm sure it used to say somewhere but I can't find it.

I'm using woodshavings, quite a thick layer. She has a lot of hay too but not in the corners where she urinates. Glue is not a bad idea though, I bet a big blob of something would work great, the only problem will be finding something waterproof and non toxic. Do you think a blob of blue tack would work, or is there the chance she'll dig down and eat it? I don't want to end up poisoning her.

I'd use Duct tape for the corners waterproof.Or even Super glue first then tape maybe.

I definitely wouldn't put blu-tack in the cage, even underneath the bedding. You just never know what they'll get up to in a nosy moment, and you don't want them nibbling on that. If you want to reinforce it I'd stick with things they can't chew at or remove like the tiny blob of glue in the corner crack, or tape on the outside.
