Hey everyone!

I was able to adopt my new piggy from the neighboring states animal shelter last night.
I was under the impression that I would have a few different females to choose from but when I got there there were only two. Here were my choices....a red colored female who was crazy, I mean I could even talk to her without her taking off, They revered to her as spastic lol, or the sweetest black and white swirly hair PREGO mama. Well I drove all the way up there so I was going to get one if possible so I decided I would take on the preg mama. After talking with the people I got the impression even with my limited knowledge I knew more about gp than them. So here we go in an all new adventure!
We named her Gracie.
From what I understand as long as introductions go well I should be able to keep both girls together even after the babies are born correct? The shelter said to remove babies at 3 weeks. Is that correct? Give me your best advice in regards to all things babies.
Thanks everyone!

Do you have some pictures of the little girl? Love to see some! Congratulations on your new piggy and future babies. =D

i have heard to remove the males from the mother by 21 days (or maybe a day sooner) as they can impregnate the mother and any sisters at that time.

are you going to keep the babies? the mother sounds adorable, congrats! :)

Congrats! It's so fun that you get to witness mom giving birth without contributing to the overbreeding problem! In adopting a pregnant pig, you do have some extra responsibility. Make sure she is healthy by taking her to a vet if you haven't already. Also, make sure you have a good vet on call in case she has issues delivering. The two sows can stay together before, during, and after delivery unless the pregnant sow is getting stressed out by the other sow. If you have any male babies, CavySpirit says to separate them at 21 days, and I would definitely trust that source. Perhaps somebody else can chime in on nutrition. MY impression is that alfalfa hay/pellets and extra calcium and vitamin c is good, but somebody else may have more specific info on that.

Congrats on the pig! We'd love to see some pigtures, Of course. You should feed the momma pig alfalfa based pellets (ie: oxbow cavy performance) and when the time comes, gjve the babies the same thing. They shouldn't need any extra of anything else. Also make sure to have a cavy savvy exotics vet lined up just in case. Good luck with the babies!

I don't know if I will be keeping any babies or not. Right now the plan is to rehome all of them. I don't have any pics but I will try to get some. Thanks for the help.

Can't wait to see pictures!
