I just rescued a new piggie about one hour ago, and I was curious to know, is he an Abyssian? I'm pretty sure that's what they're called, but I've never had one before. He's a chocolate/Caramel mix with hair that, quite frankly, looks a bit funky. I don't have a picture of him yet, but if you can tell by his description, it would help.

I am pretty sure he is an Abyssian by the description.

I agree. Go to google.com and type in cavy breeds and there are alot of different sites that have pics of the different breeds. You're so lucky!! I'm looking for an Aby.

I have an Abssian and she is adorable. Her name is Pandora and is grey and white. I love her sooo much. This week I am making a new cage for her and might get her 2 other guniea pigs for friends.

Thanks, I'll look them up!

It looks like he is an Aby, thanks! It's a change, because both Cocoa and Pebbles are(and were) both silkies.

No prob. Is he still real young? Because my friend has a piggie and at first we thought she was an aby but as she grew, we realized she was a teddy. When she was younger her hair wasn't as fully grown I guess you could say, so when she got older it "developed" more and that's when we realized she was a teddy. I really want an aby!!! your so lucky.

According to his previous owners he's about nine weeks old.

my friends pig was like 4 weeks old when she got her (we think). I would think your's is old enough to tell for sure now. With my friends, it was kinds funny because over time we were both like "hmm, is it me or does she look different to you?" That's when we got online and discovered she was a teddy. I love to get online and look at the different breeds. They're such cuties!! :)

Yes, I know. My best friend's first piggie was a teddy, he was really cute.

Are teddys soft or kinda corse? Theyr fur looks so cute.

it may also be a peruvian. peruvians have rosetts as well. is it long or short haired?

He's a short-haired.

It sounds like you have an abyssinian brindle. Here's how they look.impressionablekv.itgo.com

Sorry it's not a link but if you type that site in or search Brindle abyssinian on the web you should be able to find out how it looks easily.

I have 2 aby's out of my three piggies. They're really cute to me but everyone says that it looks like they have cowlicks all over them! (That's seriously one of my pet peeves!- When people insult my pigs..)

They do look like they have mohawks and cowlicks all over them, but I think it's one of their more endearing features, not an insult! I think it makes them look unique, and it makes mine look like a little mischief maker!
