Hi everyone,
I just recently joined, and this is actually my first post. My name is Patty and we received 2 female guinea pigs for Christmas. Actually given to the children by the grandparents, but I adore them.
I am unsure of their age as they did come from a pet store. They both appear to be young, according to the Vet. I brought them to the vet for the first time the beginning of January. Both were treated for mites with the meds discussed here.
Recently, the one who appears the youngest Suzie Sally developed a cyst behind her right ear. I called to make an appointment and she was brought today.
Over the weekend though the huge cyst burst, I am not sure what color fluid came out but I did try to keep it clean over the weekend.
When she went to the vets today, he ran some tests and cultures and believes she has the bacteria strep. Also she is now walking with her head tilted to the right, kind of showing a bit of neurological issues.
He gave me antibiotics to give her twice a day for 14 days. I have removed her from the larger cage to keep her separate from Princess.
She is still eating and drinking normally.
Has this happened to anyone? The head tilt thing? Do you think she will be ok because she is still eating and drinking, I am hoping that is a good sign and that the antibiotics work.
Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Patty
