A Veggie Question

I was wondering - can you give your guinea kids watermelon? They seem to freakout everytime they get a smell of it. If so about how much and rind on or off? Thanks.

I would go very easy on it as it (obviously) has a high water content and could potentially cause diarrhoea.

My boys love it, but as with any fruit give it sparingly a few cube once or twice a week tops. With or with out the rind doesn't matter. My guys don't really like it, but some pigs might. Just make sure to rinse it well.

Awesome - thanks for the help and advice as to amounts ... I can't wait to see thier little faces when the find a piece of that in the daily veggie platter (LOL)

My girls LOVE watermelon! (P.S. It's a fruit question, not a veggie question!)

I'm not sure, but scrub the melon really well before feeding to the piggies. I don't know if it's one of the fruits/veggies that get waxed at the grocery store.

Give watermelon sparingly as it can cause diarhea. It is best to not give them too much of the red fruit. Instead eat your slice of watermelon and leave them a small strip of the red on the rind. Give it to them rind and all. There is less water near and in the rind so they can eat more with less risk of problems.

Like kat said, scrub the rind well. Some places wax their watermelons...others don't. For those who don't know citrus juice (lemon, lime, orange) works great to remove wax from veggies. Scrub the veggie or fruit, cut a citrus fruit in half and rub the pulp well over the item you are washing, rinse. You can rub it with the citrus again if you want to add a little flavor and Vit C to whatever you are feeding.

HAHAHAHA ... point taken

Excellent - thankyou all for the advice - I will be sure to remove any wax. Seems here on the coast(specially at this time of year) all our veggies (OR FRUITS ;oP ) seem waxed.
