I don't mean to be annoying, but as an 18 year old, I was under the impression that 30-year olds are "grown ups".
Oh well, I wouldn't know anyways. Its not like I hang out with any 30 year olds L0L.

Youth is not all it's crached up to be. Trust me. I never really fit into my age group when I was growing up because I didn't fit the notion of what "50+ somthings" stereotyped us to be. I still don't as a college student.

I'm confused - is this new forum "over 25" in the sense of 26 and up, or "over 25" inclusive?

I mean, my DOB is in my profile, making me 25 but I can't see it. Do I have to wait till December?

I think the goal here, rather than excluding anyone because of their age, is to exclude those that might have a harder time understanding topics that are more sensitive in nature and therefore require more consideration before anyone's allowed to chime in.

I've seen threads in The Kitchen (and other places, for that matter) that are so promising and have such potential for great debate completely derailed by childish comments and failed understanding.

Making the cutoff at 18 or 21 - when you are a "legal adult" would do nothing but eliminate people that are younger from viewing and posting, but that isn't the point. By making it 25 (which I think is a little on the low side, 30 would probably be better, even though that would exclude me too) I think CS is hoping to cut out the posters and comments that are just unnecessary and childish - without making a statement about any person's age, per se.

Can we make a group that's 25 and under and it can be a place for us "young people" to go and have our discussions about our life experiences or lackthereof?

Just kidding, but seriously I'm not really for it. I'm sure my opinion doesn't really matter though.

I'm just a 22 year old "kid." A 22 year old "kid" engaged to be married living completely independent with a great job and I haven't even finished college yet. I believe our definition of "mature" differs greatly. I have met 40 year olds (take my mom) who is less mature than me. Life experience or not, age is just a number.

Well, at least now I have something to look forward to for another 4 years lol. I know I'm not allowed yet, but I see the point. Lately it seems a lot of younger people are being very immature and impolite and so on. Where have some people's manners gone and why aren't their parents making sure that no matter where they are, either on the internet or on the street, school,or someone else's home, that they should be watching their peas and cues. Quite frankly, times may be changing, but tat's one thing that shouldn't be! I feel bad for the mods, as they shouldn't be having to "babysit" other people's children.

I agree completely.

But I think it's an awesome idea to have a specific place that's set aside just for mature discussion. And if age isn't what defines who's allowed, and who isn't, what would? I think the alternative would be excluding certain members based on the quality of their posts, which, although maybe ideal, would be too personal and entirely subjective.

It might not be perfect, but the "age line" is really the best one I can think of for what the goal is.

Hahahaha, my mother is turning 49 on June 1st! She says the same thing, even though she chided me about "being halfway to 50" on my 25th birthday back in January. :p

I understand what you're saying and I was trying to think of another alternative and thought of that and that is obviously not fair either.

(Sorry I messed up the quote! I don't know how to fix it!)

I think this is the fundamental point on which I disagree. I don't think it's unfair at all that the owner/administrator of this forum (as well as many members) wants to create and have a place for conversations and debate for things that's not as likely as the rest of the forum to get sidetracked and sometimes completely wrecked by immature views and comments. I don't think chronological age is the end-all determining factor for whether or not a person can make valuable contributions to such a discussion, but I do think it's the best way to do it for this purpose.

I don't suppose those of us "blessed with youth" might at least be able to see? But not post? I mean, maybe that would drive me utterly nuts not being able to debate, but I might get just as crazy from thinking about it and not knowing. Good thing I'm not a cat, I suppose... ;)

No. That will just encourage people signing up with fake birthdays. And I just don't want to have to be sensitive to kid's eyes.

I think that a "kid's forum" would only be fair. But then you have the problem of us in-betweeners. I certainly don't want to listen about The Jonah's brother's and Zac Effron all day, (assuming they are allowed to have non-cavy related convos) but I'm also not old enough to see what the "grown ups" are talking about.

Oh...while reading this thread, I was wondering why none of the "kids" asked if they could just see the conversations...I wished we could, but I guess you're right, and it is your forum, but if you ever change your mind, it would be greatly appreciated ! But then there might be people, like you said, that would sign in with fake birthdays...

I think the kids forum is unnecessary. They (I guess we) can still post in everything except that...so I don't see the big problem.

Can you make it so that only members can see it. That will evade the fake birthday problem.

Think of it this way, if we "kids" are allowed to see "mature" posting maybe we can learn what is expected of us and we can use it to guide our own posting habits.

No, I don't mean "good" posting habits, that's expected anyway, I just don't want to have to worry about slightly more adult language and such.

And no, even if younger members could see it, they'd still be encouraged to think that they can just go create a new account with a fake birthday. They'd end up getting themselves banned.

Just to allay your curiosities, the only two topics going on their right now is one about how many kids everyone has and a good and dry discussion about the HR669 bill. Trust me, you aren't missing out on any parties.
