Im a little worried about furby

Is it normal for a pig to be missing some hair behind his ears? There seems to be a tad less hair back there now.

I'm starting to suspect mites because Furby's been itching alot latley and his ears and skin have sorta pinker then normal, and I've noticed some dandruff. I gave her a bath this morning and she seemed pretty happy about that. Is there any safe way to check and treat for mites without taking her to the vet?

Losing fur around ears *is* normal, but the itching and dandruff are warning signs. Check for hair loss and excessive dandruff, especially near the rump. Sores, patches of missing hair, and clumps of hair falling out are all sure signs of mites.

Ok, that dosnt sound exactly right, she itches a bit and ive knowticed a bit of dandruff, but I dont think that sound like it... Dont worry we will take her in for a check up, Im just wondering if theres anything I should be doing different now. Thanks for the help

Also mites make the skin appear scaley and/or bumpy. I would definately take her to the vet if there is any kind of sores. My abby is bald behind her ears about the same size as her ear itself.

That's great, Tina! I'm glad you noticed. Many people wouldn't even notice something as slight as this, not us hopefully, but those who don't check up on their pigs.

nope no sores, not scaly or bumpy.. Thanks guys, its good to know she's alright :)

Ok, it's always good to check. Thanks for asking!
