Cage A good 3 feet by 3 Feet cage?

Hello!

I am trying to remodel my guinea pig’s cage to have it be more suitable with the space I have. This would mean I would need a 3x3 cage, which from what I notice is quite uncommon.

What are y’all’s recommendations for bedding/absorobent materials to put on the floor. My partner doesn’t want their floor to get ruined so I’m a bit worried to use just fabric so was hoping for like a plastic corrugated bottom like a bin. Like I said though, no luck finding one!

How many guinea pigs do you have? 3 ft by 3 ft is quite small.

I use a coroplast bottom, and incontinence pads I got through Amazon under fleece. You can buy those in 36 x 36 sizes.

If the cage is 3 ft by 3 ft, that's 9 square feet. Suitable for a single guinea pig, but not really large enough for 2.

It sounds like you plan to have the cage on the floor. You could make a floor from a sheet or coroplast. I have a homemade wood floor made from 3/8” thick wainscoting. I attached 1x2s around the edge for a frame and the cage sits inside the frame. I cover the entire wood floor up over the edges using waterproof mattress pad fabric. I get the mattress pads at thrift stores, cut the netting off the sides and just use the top. Then I add fleece bedding inside and just replace bedding throughout the week.

If you use a mattress pad without an attached floor, I would pull it up on the outside of the cage and clip it to the cage with metal binder clips. Some guinea pigs are strong and can shift the cage around. You don’t want them finding a way out, or getting caught under the cage. And sometimes they can pee out of the cage, as well as get hay all over, so an edge contains the mess better.
