A bone to pick.

It just causes a mess when the pig sits in it, poops in it, and pees in it.. and like mn said, that creates a hell of a lot of bacteria. So when the water is messy like that, the pig would have to drink it, causing illness, or it wouldn't drink at all, and get dehydrated..unless you could change the water dish 2 or 3 times i day, i personaly woulodn't do it..but if it works for you, and your pig doesn't mess it up at all, then go for it.

I agree with what everyone has said about waterbowls being messy. But if it works for you, then just use one. The only thing I'd add is that it's good to have at least 2 water-bowls or 2 water-bottles, in case something happens like the water-bowl gets tipped over or the water-bottle gets knocked out of place.

The piggies you get may already be used to a water bottle, and may refuse to drink from a bowl, so you should have a bottle on hand just in case . I think when you get to using a water bowl you will see the advantage of using a bottle. I used a bowl when I had a very sick head tilt piggy who could not reach a water bottle because of the angle of his head. It's not fun believe me, they poop in them, the bedding gets in there and depending on the weight of the dish they get tipped. Now unless you plan on being on call 24/7 to change the water when spoiled or tipped over I would suggest a bottle.
