Hey guys so I have a male guinea pig (Tonka who is around 3 and is desexed) on his own and have tried him with my other guinea pigs but they don't get along so I need another guinea pig as his buddy. Anyway I currently have a rescue female who is about to give birth. If she does have a female baby I was wondering once the baby is weaned is it okay to put the baby in with Tonka or is it not safe because of the age difference?

Any help would be great. Thanks!

If there are multiple pups, I'd do an introduction with each one in a neutral territory to see which is the best match. He could even end up being more compatible with a male but you won't know until you try. My most bonded pair was a neutered male and an intact male. They got along better than any other pairs or multiples, including mixed genders with the male being neutered.

The age doesn't matter. It's the personalities of the guinea pigs. But a male/female pairing usually works well.

But maybe he hasn't gotten along with other pigs because of the way he was introduced. Read http://guinea-pigs.livejournal.com/3002707.html before trying to put him together with another pig.

It really depends on the GP, sometimes the older GP can take on the role of the father figure and it can work well, but if the younger one wants to be the dominant one then it can cause fighting and they will have to be separated. If you do try and bond them then make sure you have a 'backup' if it doesn't work out because you don't want two lone GP's!!!
