Today I am cutting my pigs' nails and I am worried. I hear as the nails get longer, so does the bloodline. It seems impossible to cut their nails with out running into the bloodline. I am also wondering how low I should cut them. I looked on Guinea Lynx and and didn't give that much info about how short to cut them.

Only cut them as close as you are comfortable. I wouldn't come within an 1/8th of an inch to the quick. But if you clip a little bit off the nail frequently, the quick will start to recede.

When I first brought Roger home he had talons! I just trimmed a little off once a week and now he has nice pretty nails and I only trim them every other week. Just do a little bit off at first until you are comfortable with trimming them.

Thanks! I'll go see if I can do it now.

If you're nervous, have your vet clip them the first time and show you how to do it.
