I have a clean piece of PVC left over from some construction project. Can I use it in my cage as a tunnel? Will most piggies fit comfortable through a piece of 4" diameter PVC? It's about 4' long--providing that the pigs will fit through it--does the length pose any extra caveats?

I have drilled a bunch of 3/8" air holes into the top of it. I have smoothed them out with sandpaper so that they don't snag delicate skin. I plan on mounting the pipe so that it will not rotate. The holes will always be along the top--no toes will be getting trapped or stubbed.

I had this same battle and this is what I learned. When the pipe is longer than two piggies a couple of things go wrong, One is it makes it hard to get them out if they hide in it when you need to get to them. Two is if two piggies can fit in there at the same time you tend to have nipping/fighting when the one in front decides to stop. Three it is harder to clean. The size I ended up using is 12" with no extra holes drilled. The diameter just depends on the size of your cavies.

Not sure, I know my Poppy might get stuck!

They'll quickly outgrow 4-inch PVC, and mine are kind of snug in my 5-inch piece. Six inches would be best.

Thanks for all of the warnings! I think I'll replace it with a piece of 6"--that could be permanent, right?

Yes! Your other ideas with the holes and making it stable are great tho!!!!!
