I haven't put my new pig in with my older pigs yet, but I wanted to make sure that two 2x3's is ok for 2 3 pigs?

im assuming thats 3 pigs, not 23.

a 2x6 is great for 3 pigs.

is the cage going to be a 2x6, or two 2x3 cages next to each other?

from how she said it, i think it would be two 2x3 right next to each other, not one 2x6, but i don't know, and if that is true, then that shoud be ok, and remember that everything we are doing is better for the pigs than the standard pet store cage, but bigger is almost always better, if you can go any bigger.

Why two? Which is going where? If you have only one sex, please put them all in one larger cage. If they don't get along or they are not only one sex, then you need two cages that are at least 2x4s with 2 pigs each.

i have 3 same sex pigs, putting them in one cage with a 2x3 on the top and a 2x3 on the bottom, thanks for everyones replies!

That is way too small. The top level does NOT count for square ft. your cage would have to be at least a 2x5.

why in the world does the top not count? that doesn't make any sense, specially since they spend more time up there then the bottom...and if this is the case then i'll have to give the new pig back to the girl that had him in a card board box!

Hello. I'll tell you, if you keep three guinea pigs in a cage that size, you'll be doing a whole lot of cage cleaning. We adopted a pregnant piggy, and when her litter was born, we had to adjust everyone's living arrangements (at that point in time, we had 15 pigs at once) to accomodate her litter while we built some new cages, and as a result, we had a slight over-crowding problem for about a week. Let me tell you - I had 3 pigs in a cage that size and I had to clean that thing, totally clean it, every single day. Never again! I now have several cages on "stand-by" in the garage in case this problem ever occurs again. They just don't have enough room when there's that many of them ... they need a place to run and a place to eat and a place to sleep and a place to go to the bathroom ... and with that many of them in one space, they have to do all those things in the same space. Good luck to you - I hope you can work out a solution.

I don't want to start a fight but it sounds fine to me if it is your last resort, but I would make the upper level a 2x4 because the ramp will almost make it a 2x3 (if you kept it at a 2x3 then it would really be a 2x2), ramps take up a lot of space.
Oh and of course they will need tons of floor time daily in that size of cage. Like 6 hours or more.

But if at all possible I think you should make it a 2x4 at least or a 2x5.

Thanks Susan and Piggylover, that explanitation makes alot more sense then someone just telling me no, bad. I think I might just find another home for this new piggy. Not quite sure what I should do yet. I live in an apartment and the cage I have is as big as I can make it without cutting off access to my bed and my desk. I want the best for the boys, and I'm a college student so I certainly wouldn't be able to give them 6 hours of floor time a day. So I might just try and find another home for this little guy. Thanks for the help!

where do you live? MIssouri? I know that is a fat chance, but I'd LOVE to adopt a lil' piggie!! :D
