Well first of all I bought scales and weighed my boys and they are 950 & 820 grams.. now I figure I'll weigh them weekly to keep an eye on it.

Next with the naughty thing...
I am piggie sitting.. 1 female pig. she's at most 5 or 6 mths old.
Well she came in this little cage with a handle, destined to spend the next 1.5 weeks there and that's what she's permanently in too..
So I built her a 2by3... my friend dosen't know and I just used thick cardboard and then a new tarp then newspaper and a big blanket .
Do you think it's cruel if she will have to go back in the small one later?
She loves it, and it's about 70% bigger than the other one. I'm hoping they will see a new happier pig and wan't to leave her in it, (that's the plan)

So you're planning on giving them the new cage? I think that's a wonderful idea and they should be in no way offended. But, if they say no thank you, you'll have to back off for a while.

Maybe you can send them home with this pamphlet: https://www.guinealynx.info/pamphlet.html

Good work. I think the little girl will have a lot of fun. Your friends might have no idea how big this baby guinea is eventually going to get. We didn't know!

Oh, sorry, and weight.

Baby guinea pigs should go up, not stay the same or go down. Weighing them is a great indicator of their health. I just recently got a clue and bought a scale.

Thanks, I allready made the cage and put her in it.
I will let them take it home when they collect her if they want to. They have the room so I can't see them not but I'm not them.
I weighed her also and she was 680gms and maybe 5 to 6 mths old so I think that's an ok weight for that age. My smallest boy isn't much bigger and he's about the same age.I was more worried that I'd do more harm than good if she liked the extra space, then had it taken from her... ie depressed piggie~

You are a nice friend to offer them a new cage. Pats on the back to you.

That is so kind of you! I don't see how your friend could refuse a ready-made home like that, especially if she has the room... keep us updated though!

Update.. she smells! My boys don't smell like this but I'm thinking it's because I'm only using blankets in her cage and the boy's have shavings.
It's cold out and I have to open up the house,,, I'm putting a new blanket in every day and the cage still reeks of pee...is that just a girl thing?

No, boys stink more than girls... if at all. It is the blankets. use fleece or towels.

Yeah I think I might, the smell is driving me nut's!

What a sweet thing to do! I'm sure that her owners will see her happy, and want to keep her that way!

Um, my girls' (Callisto and Psyche, not Nutmeg) weight last week was 800g and 812g (Callisto)... But hey, all my piggs (and my sister's, too!) bulge about the waist... I mean, Elora was the same weight as a 4-month Callisto at 2 months! (hmmm... This had better not be a pattern... Perhaps it's time to slim down for certain piggers...)

How old are they? I did wonder if she may be a bit underweight but I'm not really sure.
I know she got her around the same week I got one of my boys and he's a couple hundred grams heavier than her but I'll fatten her up, that's one thing I am good at! hehe.

Wow! Everyone's piggys are so big. Mine are very small but I guess that's because they are only 2 and 3 months old. Cali weighs 428 grams and Josie weighs 324 grams. Cali has gained weight since we first got her. She was 404 a month ago. How fast do piggys gain weight?

That is so neat that you are piggy sitting and built a better cage. I hope your friend realizes that she did good by leaving her piggy with you.

wow, seriously, your an awsome friend. it would be really sad if they didn't recognize this great thing that you did for them, maybe they will like it so much they will get another pig, and u can teach them that they need a bigger cage!) just a thought haha so girls smell less than boys? hm...i have too stinky-butt boys.....i'm gonna have to look into getting a couple girls when i move....

It really was nothing, I had plenty of spare grids laying around anyhow.
I probally won't be happy if they don't want it, or at very least make one themselve's as the cage she was in is what I'd only put a few mice in, not a piggie!
I think the smell was the blanket and urine together, I switched to 4 towel's and the smell is gone now. (The blanket didn't smell before putting in with piggie btw)

Anyway, I gotta go move the cage's now, I have friend's & their Grrrr Kid's coming over, Must protect my babie's hehehe....

I would just like to repeat that you're awesome. Its a great gift to the piggy and your friends to construct them a nice cage. Nice work!

Your a Really good friend.... My friend told me about these two girls who tried to see if their cat would land on it's four paws all the time. They threw it over the banisters on their stairs.
I hope from when I get my pigs (in a couple of months) I'll be able to grow the dfamily into gigantic one.

I hope the cat landed safely!

That was really nice of you! How long have they had the piggy? And she's all alone? Try to teach them something about caring for piggers properly.

By adopting more same-sex pigs?

They will be back to collect her in a few days, I told them there was no hurry on the phone last night, they do look after her well apart from the cage, the only thing I don't like is the way she's "just a pig" to them, they tend to just give her the requirment's and forget sort of thing. I'm allready growing really attached, I hope they make her a bigger cage or take this one or I'll be annoyed at them and dare I say may not want to hand her back.........we'll see.

Are there any updates on the piggy you are sitting? Do you still have her or did you friend pick her up?
