I have two females that I introduced in a neutral area and eventually put them in a cage together. They have been in the same cage for 2 weeks. They have been in the same cage getting along fine they are both about the same age, a little under one year. I know they are for sure both females.

as of yesterday I am hearing a lot of rumbling from the newer pig and she is chasing the older pig around and mounting her. And also fighting over different hides houses and beds... The newer pig isn't bullying the older one out of food or anything, maybe the new one she is in heat? They are not being too aggressive and it seems normal but I just want to get some input....

Do you think this is normal? there is also a little bit of nipping but it doesn't look like its hurting either of them. I also want to make sure they don't need to be separated, as I've red on the web so far none of their behavior seems too dangerous to keep them together..

thanks for the input in advance-!

It sounds like they are still sorting out dominance, who's who, etc. Keep and eye on them so they dont get out of hand or make sure they're not in distress. Sounds normal though. But for nipping make sure there is no bloodshed

This could go on for well over a month or so, actually. It really is just them deciding who's the boss of the cage haha! I've had my girls almost 2 months now, and they still do the 'dominance dance' from time to time. Nipping, mounting, rumblestrutting and chasing etc are all completely normal, the only thing you really need to look out for is that they aren't actually injuring each other. As long as they both have access to food like you said, it's fine :)

Sounds like heat to me. If they're like mine, you can expect that sort of behavior about every 14-16 days.

Would just keep a real close eye on it, for now. I wouldn't separate them right now.

Thanks for the response, I'll continue to keep an eye on them. Glad to hear it sounds normal!
