Well, we picked up the two brothers yesterday and they were pretty freaked out. They sat in the hidey house for about 9 hrs or so until I lifted the house to clean up their poo (put it in their poo box, the fedex box). They scampered off towards the food and ate some pellets and drank some water. The lighter cavy seems to be the leader of the two, we'll see. My wife insisted on holding them, so I let her hold them for 10 min or so. When I woke up this morning both of them were in the Y-shaped PVC pipe. I cleaned up some more poo in the corners and put it in the poo box. They definitely ate some hay, the hay that was sticking out last night is now gone :). I'm pretty sure they had some more pellets and I think they even nibbled on the afalfa block. However, the water level is still pretty high...between the two of them they drank only about 1-1.5 oz of water. Should I be concerned and is there anything I can do?
Oh, the pic is in my photo gallery :)

Aww, they are so precious!! I would give them a little more time - at least they're eating and drinking some water. When I first got Piggy (she was also a baby), she also drank very little water. Lala didn't drink too much water either. Dumpling on the other hand - she's drinks a ton of water. I think maybe it depends on the guinea pig.

my guinea pigs drink very little water. I have three females and if I did not change my water everyday I think one 16oz bottle would last me about a week. I use to be worried about this, but none of them are sick and they are all eating fine so i assume it is normal for them, plus they get lots of water from their veggies.

As long as they are eating which they are, and drinking, which they are, then everything is fine. Some drink more than others.

When I still had my little piggers and I had just serperated them from mom, I never saw them drinking water either and the bottle was still almost full after 2 days.. I then gave them 2 water bottles and a water dish but I just overreacted. :D Because a week later they were still doing fine!

Do you have the kind of water bottle with a little spring holding the ball down at the end of the straw? My pig had trouble figuring that one out. Timothy didn't drink much water at all for the first year. Then I got a new waterbottle without a spring in it, and he suddenly loves to drink. More than 1/4 cup a day. I was very surprised. The problem was clearly the bottle.

lauren, the water bottles are the steel ball kind and they have no problems drinking the water. It's just getting them to drink water that concerned me....not anymore though since it seems to be normal :).
We're trying our best to be patient and let these two pigs get settled. They didn't touch the romaine lettuce yesterday, so we're going to get some other veggies and see what they like.

in a book i have about gp's it says that they should drink an ounce of water for every pound they weigh....but they will drink more or less then this depending how dry or wet is the food they eat

My two boys drink the whole bottle everyday so thats about a half a cub everyday, I must have thirsty piggs lol.

lol my two boys hardly drink water but they get heaps of water off their vegies because i rinse them all first :)

My three girls don't drink much water either, so I took a suggestion from this site and like agpiggy, I rinse their veggies before I feed them so they get extra water that way.

My piggies eat a few pellets, drink water, eat a few pellets, drink water, etc....its like a dance, back and forth, back and forth. I replenish their water bottle every day. They love their water.

My girl Pineapple loves her water bottle too, draining it!!!

pennick, our pigs did the same thing yesterday We loved watching them :). Btw, I started a 'cavy log' if anyone wants to follow the lives of Patrick and Ronald:

I actually found that the positioning of the water bottle can be a problem too. I think I initially had the bottle too low, because my two piggies wouldn't drink that much. I moved a few things around their cage, including the height of the water bottle, and now they're going through an entire bottle a day.

Of course, now they're peeing more too. 8p

I fill their 4 water bottles twice a day. I have 15 girls in one cage so that explans everything. We are pet lovers

I have the height of the bottles whereas my 2 piggies have to lift their heads a little. They go through almost one bottle a day.

I agree. I think I initially had my water bottle too low. I also noticed that when I made their cage much larger with the second floor, they seemed to go through more water. Maybe it's just me or because they are getting bigger. My pigs like to drink water right when I turn off the lights to go to bed. I swear I heard the clink clink clink for half an hour straight yesterday night.
