I have one pig and a VERY big cage for him...He seems lonely..Everytime he even sees something move he sqeaks and popcorns and runs around. I have been trying to talk my parents into letting me get another one but i dont think its working..What could I tell them to make them notice its not very different having two?

Popcorning is a happy thing so at least he is happy to see you. However, they are definitely social animals and he would definitely appreciate company. If you can't spend the money to get him fixed (I sure couldn't justify that expense), you should get him a male friend. The best thing to do is to show your parents some of the information on this website or refer them to any book on guinea pig care. Something for them to consider is that there is little added expense in caring for one additional pig. The cage and bedding are the main expenses and it really doesn't matter whether there is one pig in there or two. Perhaps you can offer to pay the adoption fee out of your personal spending money.

The best way to get them on your side is to make sure you are demonstrating that you can care well for one pig. If you leave the responsibility to them, they will not be likely to want another.

yes-My piggie was fixed when rescued so i can get a male or female...He is happy but I think it would be better for him to have another piggie cuz he gets so excited even if he sees someone so obviously hes lonely if hes so excited to see someone...I have explained many times about its almost the same amount of work....Well to my mom. My dad is hard to convince and it took 2 months nonstop to convince him to get one...I just dont want to jeopordize me keeping my one baby...Thanx

tell your parents actually won't cost much for getting another GP, & GP need accompanies. They will live happier.

how did you convince your dad into getting one piggy? Maybe you could use the same tactics! Get your mum to talk to him. Maybe that will work.

All you really need to pay for to get a secong piggie is the extra food, hay, and the cost of the new pig. That's really not much considering you already have one. Your pig will be sooo much happier! They may even enjoy the cavies more if you get a second. Good luck! Oh, and by the way, you can always offer to pay for the pig... That's how I got mine (I'm 14). Just a suggestion. The great thing is, they think you're more responsible and feel it's your money, soo... But they get to pick up the food and hay still. Mwahaha! =)

I would advise you ask them to visit this site! there are many convincing testimonials here that just might help! Truly two is no extra work than one, the cage does not need to be any larger not too much extra food and hay & water+ love are free!

Borrow some pics off this site of piggys snuggling up to another mate. This may convince them that gp's are social animals and do enjoy friendship.

I know that everyone will tell you to get a second pig, and I'm sure that they're right, but if your parents really won't let you have one, your lone pig can still lead a perfectly happy life. My girl lives alone right now, and believe me she is very happy. I give her tons of attention (and treats) and she really responds to me. She popcorns and runs around her cage and squeaks and is generally a very contented and happy pig (and maybe a bit chubby). Just make sure that if you can't get a friend for your guinea pig, he/she gets plenty of attention from you.
