    Not Eating Snickers Medical Thread

Typically it is done under gas anesthesia and they wake up as soon as they are taken off the gas. 30 minutes sounds about right.

Infection Fungal infection or excessive grooming?

That looks like fungus to me. A little athlete's foot cream should clear it up. Just apply twice a day and rub it in well.

Lump Large mass/crust on boar's grease gland

He'll be fine. Use a little dish detergent on the area to help break down the grease. Then rinse well. A lot of boars, and some sows even, get some build-up on the grease gland. If it's really bad you may even have to cut the affected hair off, but be very careful not to cut his skin.

    Hair Loss Fungus or mites?

I didn't do middle of the night feedings for my Dutchess when she was sick either. I fed her first thing in the morning, between jobs in the afternoon, and when I got home at night. Always made sure she had food of all kinds available in case she decided to eat something on her own, which she...

URI/Upper Respiratory Infection Tulip's Medical Thread

The ringworm is much better too. It's no longer flaky, and looks like the hair just needs to grow back. I did move her quarantine cage from my room to the room with the other pigs, and she's already more active. I think I'll try introductions when I get home tonight.

URI/Upper Respiratory Infection Tulip's Medical Thread

Tulip had her recheck yesterday, and the vet said she's good to go, but I should give her another week to recover before introducing her to Daisy. My gut says do it now, but do I go against the doctor's advice? I trust her judgment, but I also have a lonely baby on my hands.

URI/Upper Respiratory Infection Tulip's Medical Thread

I was given a baby guinea pig on Saturday. I would guess by her size that she's about 6-8 weeks old. She was purchased from a Petsmart about two weeks prior, but the family said the kids were allergic to her. I think they just didn't want her, but my girl Daisy lost her cagemate about a month...

Sick orange gunk found in cage! Vomit or diahrea?

Guinea pigs can't vomit, and it doesn't look like any poop I've ever seen. It almost looks like she chewed up something orange and dropped it out of her mouth.

Conditions 16-days postpartum / soft stool / feels really slim

Sows look like deflated balloons after they give birth. She should get back to normal once the pups are weaned.

    Injury Dead or Dying toe?

It looks like my Penny's toe when she injured it. I still don't know what happened to her. The vet cut the nail all the way off and put her on Metacam and Bactrim. The nail never grew back but it doesn't seem to bother her at all now.

Lump Help I found a lump on my piggies belly.

I can't see just waiting around to see if she dies. There's a reason human cancer patients are given morphine. It's painful. If you won't surrender her, please consider at least taking her to a vet or shelter to be euthanized so she won't suffer. Any vet can do that, it doesn't have to be an...

Hand feeding 3 day old pup with congenital deformities- need some feeding advice

Baby food is a good choice to mix with the Critical Care too. I've used carrots, peas, and bananas before. Just depends on what the pig likes.

Hand feeding 3 day old pup with congenital deformities- need some feeding advice

I've heard of using goat's milk for guinea pig pups, but I've never tried it. There just isn't a good substitute for guinea pig milk. Good luck with your baby, and let us know how she does.
