Luckily pellets are only 5% of their diet so it's not bad if she refuses. That being said, be stern and only feed her the good pellets. If she doesn't eat them after a day, trash them and give her another fresh scoop. She'll eventually eat them, but it may take weeks to a month. Just don't give...
My pigs have been pelletless for almost two months. I have been giving more veggies. So I wouldn't know. They will only eat KMS so I've been waiting until I have enough money to buy in bulk.
@lissie, Thank you! So two 50lb bags will last me right around a year then. I'll buy two bags then. Thank...
Question in the title asks everything I need to know. 1/8 c. each and/or 1/4 c. each. I am buying KMS next month and am hoping that 50lb will last me the whole year...just wondering how close my guess is lol Thanks!!!
I've been using well water since I got our piggies 6 months ago. We've never had an issue with it. I know people say pigs can have bladder/stomach issues with it but we've never had that problem. We have more problems with certain veggies though.
Apples should be occasional foods; NOT daily. Peppers and lettuce (romaine or leaf) should be daily though! As for your piggy dying; we rescued two 4 week old girls back in July. Two weeks ago one of them died out of no where. I am avid on weighing and playing with them daily and she showed NO...
I have had between 5 and 7 girls. I buy in bulk through KMS Hayloft *45lb usually* Three cages at the moment so in the 3x4 *4 pigs* I have two hay racks side-by-side horizontally and I fill them both; usually takes 2 days for them to devour it all lol 2x3 *one special needs piggy* I put a decent...
Seven piggies and this is how we go.
Veggies: $22 bi-weekly (28 peppers, 2 leaf lettuce, tomatoes/cucumbers/carrots are home grown)
Hay: 25lb from KMS every two and a half months (just bought a 45lb box and am guessing it'll last through the new year since I still have over half of a 25lb box...
I feed mine between 8:00 and 9:00am and again at 7:00pm (evening is always on time, but morning not so much) so I doubt she'll mind. And they eat hay and pellets in the dark so I'm sure they can eat veggies too ;)
Can piggies eat yellow Tommy toes like they can red? My grandma gave me about 5 dozen yellow ones "for my pigs" but I want to make sure before I feed it to them. Small portions (1-2 per pig)?
I love your Timothy hay, as do my girls. I ordered an 8lb box a while back and it lasted almost two months between my then four pigs :) I will be ordering from you again once I run out of the KMS I have now. I am actually quite excited to try your pellets out as well!!
I would! Lemons are great for sore throats. I love tart/sour stuff though. I do agree OP that juicing them first would be best. I probably would only give a SUPER TINY piece of the rind and see how it goes. Start tiny though so they can adjust.
Trust me, my girls are not complaining about this new hay! Only one of them is refusing to eat it (out of five!) So it must not taste bad. This is my first 3rd cut hay EVER and I wasn't sure what was normal and what wasn't. So that's bad for me to come here to EXPERIENCED piggy owners and ask? I...
The top layer has a bit of green but before I flipped it (took it out of the bag it came in) it was completely brown. Even picking through it, it is really brown.
I got my 25lb box of Timothy 3rd cut yesterday and I'm not sure what to think of it. I already emailed Linda about it, but what do you think? It's more brown colored, has a TON of those head seed things and it's extremely stiff; nothing like my 2nd cut Timothy. Is this normal for 3rd cut...
I am expecting a 25lb box on Friday, I sure hope it isn't bad too :( What should I watch out for? I'm used to Small Pet Select 2nd cut so not sure what "good" 3rd cut looks like..
